In the incident that occurred around 6:15 in the morning, the camera footage first reflected the white smoke surrounding the EQE. Mercedes’ electric car EQE, which was not even charged yet, suddenly caught fire after the smoke. The fire that broke out on the first floor of the parking garage engulfed the surrounding area in seconds. A total of 177 emergency response teams were sent to the scene, while 209 people had to evacuate their homes due to the dense smoke.
As a result of the 8-hour fire extinguishing efforts, it was reported that 20 people were taken to the hospital due to smoke and 70 vehicles were damaged by the fire. A Mercedes spokesperson made a statement regarding the fire caused by the electric car and stated that they did not have any details about the model and batteries at the moment. However, they also stated that they will do their best to find the cause and solution.
While the police and fire department have launched an investigation into the fire, it was reported that the fire department received 197 calls regarding the incident. This is another proof of how panic the fire created.
