Electric cars will be lighter by half!

Ana sayfa / News

We’ve become accustomed to seeing electric cars on the streets and roads. Even if we don’t own an electric car ourselves, we’ve had the chance to experience riding in our neighbor’s or friend’s electric vehicle. While these vehicles come with advantages, they also have some disadvantages, one of which is weight. Stellantis CEO stated in a recent announcement that this issue will be addressed. Here are the details…

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares participated in the Freedom of Mobility event recently. During the event, he mentioned that in the next 10 years, it will be necessary to halve the weight of batteries to make electrification more environmentally meaningful. Additionally, significant changes in the weight of cars were emphasized.

Electric cars lighter

Weight is crucial in a car. Lighter vehicles are necessary for fuel economy or, in the case of electric cars, for maximizing range. However, batteries are quite heavy components, and this reflects as a disadvantage for electric vehicles. When extra weight is added, it leads to significant reductions in range.

The most luxurious portable electric vehicle charger! Koenigsegg Envera unveiled

Koenigsegg redefines comfort, versatility, and luxury in vehicle charging with the Envera portable electric car charging station.

CEO Tavares further mentioned that the batteries discussed add an extra £1000 in cost and 500 kilograms in weight to an electric car with a 400-kilometer range. Emphasizing the importance of weight reduction, the CEO also expressed that achieving this goal within the next 10 years is feasible.

Another noteworthy point here is that halving the weight of battery packs also indicates a decrease in raw material usage. A 50% reduction in battery pack weight translates to a reduction in raw material usage compared to a traditional car. This is particularly significant in times of lithium scarcity.
