Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Musk, who has recently drawn attention to free discourse statements on X, has breathed new life into the media in this context. The nomination was presented by Norwegian MP Marius Nilsen.
Can Elon Musk win the Nobel Peace Prize?
MP Marius Nilsen stated that SpaceX provides satellite internet to Ukraine via Starlink. The internet connection allowed Ukrainian citizens to communicate after Russia invaded the region and cut off communications. He reminded that Elon Musk accomplished important work at this stage.
Nilsen also highlighted Musk’s defense of freedom of expression and opening up important issues for discussion. If selected as the winner of the award, Elon Musk will join the ranks of other business people such as Norman Borlaug, who received the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian work.
However, there are many people who disagree with the MP. Musk, who caused great controversy over content moderation on Twitter, which he bought, was accused of restricting instead of free discourse. This led to the nomination being questioned.
Elon Musk also reopened some controversial accounts that had been banned some time after he bought the platform. It should be underlined that although he opened former President Donald Trump’s account, no posts were made.
In addition to Tesla and SpaceX, Musk also runs The Boring Company and Neuralink, which develops brain-computer interfaces.
Let us remind you that the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Nargis Mohammadi in 2023. An Iranian human rights defender, Mohammadi has been fighting for women’s rights for more than 20 years.
