Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, has broken his silence after more than 10 million people voted in favor of him stepping down from his position at the company. In a tweet, Musk stated that only paid Twitter Blue subscribers will be able to vote in future policy-related polls.

Musk’s decision to only allow Twitter Blue subscribers to vote in future polls has raised concerns among some users, as the subscription service allows anyone to purchase a verified blue tick badge for their account. This could potentially lead to the skewing of poll results in favor of those who can afford the subscription.
The controversy surrounding Musk’s leadership at Twitter began last week when he banned an account that tracked the location of his private jet. This was followed by the mass suspension of critical journalists who reported on the ban, leading to an exodus of some engaged users to rival social networks, including Mastodon. In response, Musk banned all links to other social networks, including Mastodon, Instagram, Facebook, and even minor platforms such as Nostr and Linktree.
Musk has a history of using Twitter polls to rubber-stamp major decisions, including selling a tenth of his Tesla holdings after one poll in 2021 and restoring Donald Trump’s account after another poll last month. However, in many cases, he has given the impression of already having decided on the outcome before posting the poll.
Despite being the majority owner of the privately held company, it is unclear whether Musk will actually step down as CEO in light of the poll results. However, his recent actions and decisions have caused even some of his closest backers to break ties with him.
