xAI’s Grok, developed as a competitor to OpenAI, has recently been in the spotlight for providing controversial responses. Some users asked Grok about individuals who might deserve the death penalty, including Donald Trump and Elon Musk, based on their actions. This led to an uproar among users, prompting xAI to quickly address the issue. Following the backlash, the chatbot was updated to prevent it from answering such sensitive questions.
xAI quickly fixed the error of Grok
When asked similar questions, Grok initially responded by naming figures like Jeffrey Epstein and Donald Trump. In one instance, when asked about someone who has a significant public influence, Grok even pointed to Elon Musk. This sparked considerable outrage. xAI swiftly acknowledged the error and rolled out an update to ensure Grok would now reply, “As an AI, I do not have the authority to make such decisions.”
Igor Babuschkin, the engineering lead at xAI, described the bot’s responses as “truly awful and a terrible mistake.”
For comparison, when a similar question was posed to ChatGPT, it declined to answer, citing ethical and legal reasons.
