SpaceX city Starbase is being built in Texas
Now Elon Musk’s ambitions have reached a new stage. He has begun work to build a company town called Starbase near his rocket launch facilities in the Boca Chica region. According to the petition submitted to Cameron County officials, the town will cover about 3.8 square kilometers and will be home to about 500 people, mostly SpaceX employees and their families.
This initiative will address the creation of a new municipality in Texas that will be controlled by a single company. While company towns were more common in the past, they have become extremely rare today. It was almost 100 years ago that there was such an initiative in Texas.
If the establishment of Starbase is approved, SpaceX and its employees will be given considerable freedom. Starbase will be able to establish its own police and fire departments, pass local ordinances and even apply for state and federal grants. It would also take on tasks such as road maintenance.
