End of support for popular Android app!

Ana sayfa / Technology

Google continues to withdraw support from older Android versions. The company, which has updated its support list for Calendar and Chrome in the past weeks, now seems to have a hand in Android Auto. The latest update of the application revealed that Android Auto will not work on older versions.

According to the details in the app update, Google is adjusting the supported Android versions for Android Auto. Accordingly, Android Auto support will end on devices running Android 7 Nougat or older.

Android Auto allows users to access apps and services on their phones through the infotainment screen of their cars. However, notifications will be shown that an Android update is required to use the app.

The code in version 11 of Auto has warnings that support will be discontinued for phones running Android 8 (Oreo) and earlier. The app will inform them that they need to update to the latest version of Android for Auto to continue working.

The move follows other Google apps such as Chrome and Calendar that have stopped supporting Nougat in recent weeks. Launched in 2016, Nougat accounts for 2 percent of the market.

Google has not made an official statement regarding Android support. But a change in the app’s update notes suggests that its phones will soon be unable to access Android Auto. Still, it’s unclear when it will stop working for Nougat or earlier versions.
