Ericsson Research Turkey is making a significant contribution to the ROBUST-6G project, focusing on the future of communication technologies. This project aims to enhance the security of 6G networks by leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) techniques. ROBUST-6G aims to address new challenges that will arise in future cyber-physical processes, ensuring the resilience of 6G services and networks in the face of these challenges.
Ericsson Turkey is mapping out the security roadmap for 6G
The role of Ericsson Turkey in this project, as the global project coordinator, holds significance as a first in the field of information and communication technologies in Turkey, demonstrating the country’s vital role in researching next-generation communication technologies.
The success of 6G networks relies on their programmability, adaptability, and efficiency. However, these features also make network management and operation complex. ROBUST-6G aims to manage this complexity and provide protection against cybersecurity risks by developing a fully automated, end-to-end intelligent network and service security management framework using Zero-Touch Network and Service Management (ZSM) and AI/ML techniques.
The project also aims to enhance resilience in areas such as distributed intelligence, privacy improvements, and transparency in AI/ML, as well as promote sustainable artificial intelligence methods that enhance energy efficiency in 6G network design. These efforts aim to improve performance, enhance computational requirements, and minimize energy consumption.
Işıl Yalçın, General Manager of Ericsson Turkey, emphasizes that 6G has the potential to provide wireless intelligence everywhere as the latest generation of wireless communication technology. She highlights the critical role of artificial intelligence in supporting future technological advancements and ensuring the reliability of these technologies.
ROBUST-6G is supported by the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) in Europe, emphasizing microelectronics, sustainability, and standardization efforts. This initiative aims to encourage innovative approaches in 6G research and align technological advancements with societal needs and benefits. Alongside ROBUST-6G, projects funded by SNS JU include large-scale trials and pilot studies aimed at transferring 6G technologies to real-world applications across various sectors.
