Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland is becoming a playable character in Clash of Clans this week. This is the first time a real person has been added as a playable character in the game, and the fact that it’s Haaland makes it all the more interesting.
Erling Haaland comes to Clash of Clans as the ‘Barbarian King’
World star Erling Haaland will transform into the Barbarian King character during the month-long soccer-themed seasonal Clash of Clans event.
Clash players will be able to recruit the Norwegian footballer to their troops or have the chance to loot and destroy his village. A perfect opportunity if you don’t support City.
So how did this interesting collaboration come about? Erling Haaland has been playing Clash of Clans for more than 10 years. So he approached Supercell, the Finnish game developer behind the popular mobile game, about a partnership.
Supercell was delighted with the opportunity. “When we heard that Erling Haaland was a fan of our game and wanted to collaborate with us, it was a dream come true,” said Stuart McGaw, general manager of CoC, in a statement.
Haaland was about 10 years old when he first discovered Clash and built an in-game village in the fantasy-themed world. He said of the collaboration: “I’ve been a big fan of the game for a long time and know everything about it, so it’s really cool to appear as an in-game character.”
The special Haaland season starts tomorrow and runs until May 31, and if you take down Haaland on the battlefield, you’ll earn additional rewards and a spot on the leaderboards.
