EU weighs mandatory ban on Huawei on 5G network

Ana sayfa / Security

The European Union will make new decisions regarding Huawei and other Chinese companies, taking into account the concerns of the United States. European countries aim to impose a mandatory ban on companies that pose potential security risks in 5G networks.

Huawei and ZTE are on the edge for EU banning

Previously, a decision taken by the European Commission addressed the removal of high-risk 5G companies like Huawei from critical telecommunications infrastructure. However, when it was observed that only one-third of the countries implemented these bans, a decision was made to adopt a stricter approach.

Thierry Breton, the EU Internal Market Commissioner, recently met with communication ministers of member states. He stated that only one-third of the EU countries have imposed bans on Huawei in critical areas. This announcement indicates that a mandatory ban may be on the way.

Portugal could impose sanctions on Huawei!

According to the statement made by the High Cybersecurity Council, the Portuguese government may impose sanctions on Huawei.

In fact, such an approach in the European Commission is not surprising. The United States has already removed Huawei from its 5G networks. Additionally, Germany plans to ban certain parts of Chinese companies like Huawei and ZTE in its telecommunication network.

The EU aims to take a more assertive decision by imposing a mandatory ban on companies deemed to pose security risks. However, it should be noted that the decision will be limited to 5G networks, and Huawei and ZTE will continue their other operations in Europe.

The planned mandatory ban by the EU follows the allegations of Huawei’s connection with the Chinese government. Huawei has repeatedly denied these claims and stated that data is not shared with China.
