Tesla has revealed that its updated Model Y SUV will hit the markets in the US, Canada, and Mexico this March. The starting price, however, is higher than many expected: a hefty $59,990. Tesla Model Y: More Expensive Than Anticipated
The latest version of the Model Y will debut as a special edition called the ‘Launch Series’. This model includes a large battery offering 320 miles of range and Tesla’s advanced driver assistance systems. However, the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package comes as an additional option, priced at $8,000. For context, the current base rear-wheel-drive Model Y starts at $44,990, creating a surprising $15,000 price gap for those interested in the new SUV.
This announcement also confirms that the refreshed Model Y, which Tesla unveiled for the Chinese and Asian markets a few weeks ago, will launch globally simultaneously. In the past, Tesla introduced updated models to the Asian and North American markets months apart, but this time, the Model Y will be available worldwide at the same time.
The refreshed Model Y comes with significant design changes compared to the previous version. The front now features a more modern and angular nose design, complemented by a thin LED light strip running along the hood.
