A recent incident shook the hardware industry. Prominent TechTuber Der8auer took action after one of his followers purchased a fake AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor. As fake processors become a growing problem in online marketplaces, it has become clear just how far scammers will go.
A lot of fake AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processors found on the market
The stalker found the fake processor on a platform called OLX, which is popular in the European market, and bought it for around 300 euros. The processor, which was around 100 euros cheaper than the original product price, seemed like a great deal at first, but the reality quickly became apparent. The processor did not react at all when plugged into the motherboard and turned out to be completely empty and dysfunctional.
Der8auer bought the fake processor and did a detailed inspection. The fake product, which is apparently quite professionally made, has a few minor differences that are hard to distinguish from a real Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor. For example, the PCB of the fake processor is thinner and the colors are slightly different . Also, the protective resin layer on the capacitors is missing . But the real surprise came when he opened the processor cover. Instead of a real chip inside, there is only a fake silicon chip.
Upon examination, it became clear how professionally fake products can be produced and how far these scams can go. In order to protect yourself from such fake products, it is of great importance to shop from reliable and well-known sellers, especially when shopping online.
