Facebook has introduced the much-anticipated innovation

Ana sayfa / News

Meta has introduced a significant change to Facebook group participation. Group members are now free from the long-standing requirement to use real names. Instead of using their real names in Facebook Groups, users can now share with a custom nickname and personalized avatar.

Previously, Facebook required users to participate on the platform using their real names, with some exceptions. This new feature eliminates the need for group members to choose between anonymity and real names. A nickname and avatar allow members to participate and share content while concealing their true identities.

For this feature to become active, group administrators must first enable nicknames. In some cases, individual nicknames must be approved separately by administrators.

After the approval process is complete, group members can share with their real names or with the new nickname they choose. These nicknames must comply with Meta’s current community rules and terms of service. Users also choose from a variety of custom avatars when choosing their nickname.

Meta provides a clear explanation of how the new system works. Sharing a post, comment, or react under a nickname hides the main profile name and profile photo from other group members.

However, this anonymity does not apply to group administrators, moderators, or Facebook systems. These authorized individuals and systems still see the main profile name and profile photo associated with the posts. This way, Meta provides both user privacy and maintains group security and control. This new feature fundamentally changes Facebook’s group experience.
