Facebook’s new feature was met with disapproval

Ana sayfa / News

Facebook’s “Community Notes” feature, inspired by rival platform X, fell short of expectations. This feature, which began testing in March, was intended as a safeguard against misleading or false information, but initial results were disappointing.

Guy Rosen, Meta’s director of information security, shared data from the testing process. Accordingly, although more than 15,000 community notes were written, only 6 percent were published. These figures suggest the feature is not as effective on Facebook as it was on X. It’s noted that users are unlikely to encounter this new feature frequently.

Community notes are built on a system that allows other users to add notes to correct misinformation in a post. Notes can be up to 500 characters long and can include a link.

The evaluation process for notes is complex, extending beyond simply “useful” or “unuseful.” Meta considers user behavioral trends in determining the usefulness of notes.

The company’s example demonstrates that even those with similar views can reach a consensus in different situations. However, it’s stated that this complex system, along with the influence of majority voting, plays a contributing role in determining grades.
