Fairgames loses another key dev as doubts around PS5 live service grow

Fairgames might still be alive, but it’s definitely not looking healthy.

Daniel Drapeau, who had been with Fairgames since its inception, quietly left Haven Studio last month. His departure marks another major shift for one of the few remaining live service titles still in development at Sony.

Drapeau confirmed on LinkedIn that he’s now joined WB Games Montreal as a creative director. “I can’t wait to start this wonderful adventure,” he wrote. Drapeau’s exit follows the departure of studio founder Jade Raymond, who left Haven earlier this year after a round of internal testing reportedly raised red flags.

Sony’s live service push has been bleeding projects for over a year. While Fairgames is technically still in development, it’s one of the few first-party titles left standing. Others haven’t been so lucky:

With each departure, faith in Fairgames surviving long enough to launch gets shakier.

People who’ve seen early builds of the game haven’t exactly painted a rosy picture. One source described it as a blend of Battle Royale and extraction shooter, with some DNA borrowed from The Division and Fortnite. Sounds ambitious, but reportedly, the actual gameplay was “super clunky.”

That’s not what Sony needs right now. The company is trying to salvage its live service ambitions after sinking resources into the space and facing brutal market pushback.

Lead developers come and go, but the timing here is tough. With both Raymond and Drapeau now out, the project’s creative leadership has been gutted. Publicly, the game is still active. But behind the scenes, many believe the writing’s already on the wall.

There’s little to show since the game’s flashy reveal trailer, and Sony hasn’t made any major push to rebuild momentum.

The live service space doesn’t forgive mediocrity. Without a sharp hook, tight mechanics, or major community buzz, Fairgames risks slipping into the same trap as its peers: silence, skepticism, and a quick shutdown. Unless something changes fast, this heist might never make it out of planning.
