Mozilla Firefox 133 update was officially released today. According to the information shared by the company, the new update of the browser comes with a number of new privacy-oriented features. At the same time, various improvements are offered regarding tabs and more. Here are all the details about the update…
What’s new with Firefox 133
The latest version of the browser now supports Bounce Tracking Protection, a new anti-tracking function. According to the details in the update notes, this tool can detect trackers based on redirection behaviour. It can also clear cookies and other information to block them.
On the other hand, the platform now comes with the ability to see tabs open on other devices through the relevant section in the Overview. Here are all the innovations that come with Firefox 133:
- Firefox now has a new anti-tracking feature, Bounce Tracking Protection, available in the ‘Strict’ mode of Advanced Tracking Protection. This feature detects bounce trackers based on referring behaviour and periodically cleans your cookies and site data to prevent tracking.
- The sidebar for viewing tabs on other devices can now be opened from the Tab Overview menu.
- Firefox Labs’ “Picture in Picture: auto-open when switching tabs” feature now behaves more reliably across a wide range of sites, automatically opening relevant videos and ignoring others.
- When the server clock is available, the value of the ‘expire’ attribute is set by adding the difference between the server and local clocks. If the current time is set in the future, cookies that have not expired according to server time will be considered valid.
On the other hand, Firefox 133 offers the following new features for developers:
- Firefox now supports the keepalive option in the Fetch API. This allows developers to make HTTP requests that can continue to execute even after the page has loaded, such as when browsing or closing a page.
- Firefox now supports the Permissions API in the running context.
- Firefox now sends beforetoggle events before a dialogue box opens and toggle events corresponding to the behavior of popovers after the dialogue box closes.
- Methods are now available to convert to and from Base64 and hexadecimal encodings in UInt8Array. This is an implementation of the Stage 3 TC39 recommendation, see the recommendation text for more details.
- Support for image decoding has been added as part of the WebCodecs API. This allows decoding of images from main and worker threads.
