Firefox has announced that it is working on a new AI browsing feature that incorporates an AI assistant and chatbot. The company calls this new feature AI Window. Firefox describes AI Window as “an intelligent, user-controlled space” that is openly developed with user participation and can be activated by users at will.
Firefox is expanding AI support
This new AI mode will be a third browsing experience, in addition to the private and classic browsing windows Firefox users are accustomed to.
In a post on the Connect forum, Mozilla stated that users will be able to choose which AI model they want to use within AI Window. Users who want to stay up-to-date on AI Window can now sign up for Mozilla’s waiting list.
This development comes at a time when Mozilla is emphasizing user privacy and freedom of choice. The company positions itself as “a respectful browser that gives users the freedom to use as much AI as they want.”
In September, Mozilla introduced a “shake to summarize” feature in its Firefox app for iPhone, which summarizes open web pages by shaking the phone. This new AI Window feature further enhances the browser’s AI integrations.
Introducing AI Window as an additional mode to the basic browsing windows gives users full control over when and how they use AI tools. Users have the option of using classic or custom windows for sessions containing sensitive or personal information, and can switch to this third, customized mode for AI-assisted tasks.
