Negotiations for John Wick 5 are underway
Lionsgate Motion Picture President Joe Drake said in a recent statement that the studio is eager to get John Wick 5 ready. However, noting that Chapter 4 was released last year, he said that the new movie is not likely to be released immediately.
“We’re all going to take some time off, and then we’ll go through ideas about whether there’s a credible way to get to five,” Drake said. A spinoff project could also be an option to further expand the John Wick universe, he said.
Chapter 4 made a big splash on its opening weekend, earning $73.8 million in the US and $141.4 million worldwide. It also set new box office records for the series. It exceeded opening expectations and proved that audiences are interested.
Director Chad Stahelski stated that Chapter 4 was intended to be the last story of Keanu Reeves and John Wick. But box office results have caused Lionsgate to reevaluate the franchise. Although Reeves and Stahelski don’t want to make more movies, a new story could be started.
