Flappy Bird, which became iconic through its record-breaking success on Android and iOS app stores, was removed from all platforms by its creator Dong Nguyen following intense reactions and issues. Recently, it was announced that The Flappy Bird Foundation had acquired the trademarks and game rights to reactivate the game.
However, the truth came to light with a recent statement from Dong Nguyen, who posted on X (formerly Twitter) for the first time since 2017. Nguyen clarified that he has not sold anything, contrary to what the Foundation had announced regarding acquiring the trademarks from Gametech Holdings.
Although the new developer appears to have obtained the game’s rights, Nguyen’s statements suggest he has no connection to the new version and did not sell any rights. Additionally, Nguyen has expressed disinterest in the project and clarified that he does not support cryptocurrency.
The newly listed Flappy Bird for iOS and Android under the label “Coming Soon” is said to differ significantly from the original and is primarily driven by commercial motives.
