Some countries (usually hot, humid regions) have a tough fight against the scourge of mankind: mosquitoes. These pests not only surround us, they suck your blood and carry viruses that routinely kill many people. Some local governments have started using drones to defeat the scourge of mosquitoes.
Drones are being used for mosquito spraying
Broward County, Florida, has recently started using drones to spray for mosquitoes in hard-to-reach places. Local governments frequently spray mosquito breeding grounds, killing the larvae of dangerous, disease-carrying insects.
Until recently, crews had to be sent to Florida’s swampy environment where Aedes mosquitoes (also known as “yellow fever mosquitoes”) lay eggs. Now, Broward officials can send drones to finish the job without the need for humans.
Until now, crews had to spend days on a single site that was inaccessible by truck. They had to sink into the mud and use a cleaver to get through the bushes.
Using drones to fight mosquitoes is actually not new. In 2013, Florida used drones to find puddles where mosquitoes could breed in large numbers.
These new drones attack the insects directly and are doing the same in several other regions in the US. Could a similar application be implemented in Turkey? What do you think about the use of drones for fly spraying? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
