Apple’s highly anticipated foldable iPhone concept is nearing completion. Production for the device’s OLED display has been approved, and production has officially begun.
The foldable iPhone is on its way
Samsung Display President Lee Chong announced that they will begin production of foldable OLED displays for a US customer in the third quarter of next year. Chong stated that the display will be 8.6 inches.
Since production is known to be unavailable without Apple’s quality approval, it appears Samsung has secured this approval. The 8.6-inch internal display offers a significantly larger footprint than competitor foldable phones in the market. This raises the possibility that the device’s external display will also be larger.
The Samsung executive stated that the OLED panels in question were developed using sixth-generation manufacturing techniques and are highly efficient. Chong added that continued government incentives are essential for the collaboration to continue.
The foldable iPhone is expected to be available towards the end of 2026. It is anticipated that the device will be sold as the most premium model in the series, even above the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
However, sources indicate that a delay, while unlikely, is still possible. Apple’s move is certain to elevate foldable device competition in the mobile world to a new level.
