The tech world is closely watching Apple’s development of foldable devices. Leaks about this long-awaited device continue unabated. The latest reports suggest the tech giant may be making a radical design change. According to claims, the foldable iPhone may be equipped with Touch ID technology, abandoning the traditional Face ID system.
Foldable iPhone Returns to Touch ID Technology
One of the biggest priorities for this model, expected to be Apple’s first move in the foldable phone market, is its thinness. According to reliable information from the industry, Apple engineers want to keep the body thickness of the foldable iPhone model to a minimum. Therefore, instead of the bulky Face ID sensors, a fingerprint reader will be placed on the side of the device. In other words, the foldable iPhone will feature a Touch ID sensor.
As is known, Apple offers Face ID facial recognition technology as standard on all current iPhone models. However, some models, such as the iPad Air or iPad mini, continue to use Touch ID integrated into the power button. This move is interpreted as a strategic return to ergonomics and thinness for the foldable device.
Concrete steps have also been taken regarding the device’s production. According to the information obtained, Apple has sat down with Samsung Display for this special device and placed a massive order for 22 million OLED panels. It is stated that 11 million of these are for the inner screen and 11 million for the outer screen. This production volume proves that Apple has very high sales expectations.
However, there are various speculations about the device’s price tag. Technology analysts predict that the phone will have a sales price between $2,000 and $2,500. The $2,400 level is among the most frequently mentioned figures.
On the design side, reports from China suggest that there will be no crease marks on the inner screen. This issue, resolved with the support of Samsung Display, will elevate the user experience. Furthermore, it is expected that the device will feature a 24-megapixel under-display camera on the main inner screen and that its body will be a blend of titanium and aluminum alloy. This device, likely to be called the “iPhone Fold,” is targeted for release in 2026.
