Microsoft seems to want to revitalize its presence in the foldable phone market. The company’s latest patent reveals an innovative foldable screen design. It is stated that the company is developing a device for both Android and Windows services.

A patent that Microsoft received in February and published last month suggests that the tech giant is planning an ambitious entry into the foldable phone market. The patent reveals a design that can be folded both horizontally and vertically, different from existing devices on the market.

In addition to folding like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, the device will also be able to transform into a mini display format. According to the patent, Microsoft is using special slots in the display to ensure smooth bending. It also states that hinge lines on foldable screens can be avoided.

Huawei to launch Rolls-Royce rival luxury car brand

Huawei and JAC have launched Maextro, a new luxury car brand. So what will the company's first vehicle offer?

Although the screen size and specifications are not yet clear, Microsoft’s moves on the hardware side attract attention. The company could offer a device that can launch Android and also Windows to utilize the large screen space.

The foldable screen could open up the device to Microsoft Office apps and the entire Windows ecosystem. The ability to play games with pre-installed Xbox games and apps could also position the foldable device as a work and entertainment device.

While the Android-based Surface Duo models have been disappointing, the foldable device optimized for Windows and Microsoft services could open a new chapter. Of course, let’s underline that only patents have been received for now.
