Ford, known for its car models in different segments, is canceling its once best-selling crossover. According to a message sent to employees at a factory, Ford Edge production will end as of April.

Ford Motor Company announced that it will pull the plug on the Edge crossover model as part of the announcement sent to the labor union. He stated that the assembly line, which continues in Canada, will be closed on April 16. This means that Edge 2024 will be the last model.

In production since 2006, the crossover was one of Ford’s best-selling vehicles for the European and US markets. It was reported to have sold over 130,000 units in its first year on the market. However, it was reported that demand has decreased since 2020 and sales have declined.

Netflix Avatar series draws backlash, here’s why

The Avatar Netflix series announced that Sokka, one of the main characters, will be different in the adaptation than in the original.

The Edge’s position in the crossover market was between the Ford Escape and Kuga. The vehicle, also called the mid-level SUV, will disappear without seeing an electric model.

The end of Edge production is part of Ford’s shift towards electrification. The automaker wants to offer five new electric vehicles by 2028. To do this, it will use the factory where the Edge is assembled. The Canadian plant will see an investment of 1 billion dollars.

Plant Manager Marc Brennan said that the details of the transition to electric models are still unclear. However, he stated that when the plant transformation is completed, it will be a center for electric vehicle production.
