Formula E car: Double the power and all-wheel drive

Ana sayfa / News

Formula E has unveiled its new “GEN4” car, featuring the series’ biggest performance update to date. Offering double the power and a racing-first permanent all-wheel drive system, the new Formula E car is poised to rewrite the rules of electric racing.

The GEN4 platform significantly raises the bar on performance. Maximum power has nearly doubled from 350kW to 600kW (805 horsepower). In race mode, drivers will be able to use 450kW (603 horsepower) instead of 300kW. The maximum 600kW will be active during qualifying and “attack mode.”

The front engine, which was used only during certain conditions (qualifying or attack mode) in the GEN3, will be active throughout the race. This makes Formula E the only open single-wheel racing series with permanent all-wheel drive. This system will deliver significant advantages to drivers, especially on the exit of corners, by transferring power to the ground earlier. All this power is packaged in a package weighing just 1,012 kg. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.8 seconds, approximately 30% faster than an F1 car. Initial tests also showed the GEN4 car reaching a top speed of 340 km/h (211 mph).

The improvements don’t stop at power. Regenerative braking capacity has been increased from 600 kW to 700 kW, providing greater energy recovery. New downforce packages are also available to offset the increased performance. Driver aids like anti-lock braking (ABS) and traction control, which are not seen in most racing series, have also been added.

Formula E claims this car is “the world’s most sustainable racing car.” 100% of the materials used are recyclable, with 20% containing recycled content. The new-generation cars will be on the track in the new season, which begins in late 2026.
