The first look at Fortnite Companions has slipped out through fresh datamines, showing off a playful mix of pet-like cosmetics that may soon roam the battle royale island alongside your character.

Datamined assets from the latest update include UI icons for several animals: a golden retriever, two different pugs, a robotic dog inspired by the Cuddle Team Leader, and the star of the set, a turtle riding a skateboard. These designs match earlier hints that Epic Games was building a new category of cosmetics that move with your player in matches.
How Fortnite Companions differ from old Pets
Veteran players will remember that Fortnite once had “Pets,” which were animated creatures strapped to your back as backbling. Past battle passes introduced roughly a dozen, from alien critter Choppy to the ever-popular Baby Yoda. But Pets never interacted with the environment, and Epic stopped adding them years ago despite steady requests for their return.

While Epic hasn’t confirmed details, leaks suggest Companions will:
