Fortnite is coming back to iPhone four years after being removed from the App Store. Epic Games’ popular battle royale game will be available through the Epic Games Store app. The digital store is currently available for Android and iOS.
Fortnite is now available on the Epic Games Store for iPhone
Fortnite was removed from Apple and Google’s app stores in 2020 for switching to a payment system that bypassed their commissions. This led to legal action between Epic Games and Apple/Google.
The Digital Markets Act (DMA) introduced by the European Union restricted Apple’s rights in some areas. Accordingly, Apple had to allow app downloads from outside the App Store in the European region.
As part of this decision, Epic Games opened its own app store to iOS devices in Europe. It is possible to access and officially play Fortnite through the digital store. Android users can access the Epic Games Store globally.
Many of the games on the Epic Games Store, including Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe and Fall Guys, will be available for download for iPhone and iPad users in the EU. However, Apple continues to block access for users outside Europe.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney praised the EU for forcing Apple to comply with the new regulations and allow third-party stores. Epic is estimated to have lost more than $1 billion on iOS due to its four-year legal battle.
