Fortnite isn’t returning to iOS!

Ana sayfa / News

The conflict between Apple and Epic Games, two giants of the technology world, continues. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney announced that Fortnite will not return to the iOS platform in Japan in 2025. The reason given for the failure to keep previous promises is Apple’s new pricing policies and restrictions.

In a statement made on the social media platform X, Tim Sweeney harshly criticized Apple. He stated that Apple is obligated to comply with Japan’s Mobile Software Competition Act (MSCA), but instead of doing so honestly, it has created new obstacles. According to Sweeney, Apple has established a new system that undermines competition by violating the law.

Earlier this week, Apple announced new distribution and payment options for developers in Japan. However, these options have caused great disappointment for Epic Games.

The 21% “junk fee” claim

The focus of Sweeney’s reaction is on the new commission rates demanded by Apple. Allegedly, Apple has begun implementing the following deductions:

Sweeney described these deductions as junk fees, arguing that Apple is trying to crush competition. He also claimed that Apple uses misleading warning screens to scare users and monitors transactions in competing stores through a mandatory reporting system.

Following these developments, Epic Games announced it would take the matter to the Japan Fair Trade Commission. Sweeney emphasized that genuine competition cannot exist as long as Apple prevents fair trade between developers and consumers.

This situation makes it impossible for Fortnite to return to the Japanese market on iOS in 2025, as Epic Games previously stated. The five-year legal battle appears set to continue dominating the technology news in 2026.

So, which side do you think is in the right in this battle? Is Apple acting on security grounds or is it protecting its monopoly? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
