Epic Games has released a major new update for Fortnite as it gears up for the return of Fortnitemares, its annual Halloween celebration. Update v31.30 introduces several new features and additions ahead of the spooky season.

Perhaps the biggest change is the introduction of “Sleep Mode” for AFK players. The update will now pause players’ games and cancel matchmaking if they remain idle for 15 minutes, in an effort to crack down on players who passively farm XP without actively playing.
Storylines in the game will also continue with the first of two planned live in-game events this season. While details are still under wraps, the latest update includes files for a new cinematic, hinting that Doctor Doom may have another sinister plan unfolding.
Fortnitemares kicks off soon and the update includes some new horrific collaborations. Players can expect the return of Pumpkin King and Sally skins from The Nightmare Before Christmas Part 2, as well as new crossover skins featuring iconic slasher villains Leatherface and Billy the Puppet from the Saw franchise.
One popular Fortnitemares mode also makes a comeback. Horde Rush, the wave-based cooperative mode, tasks squads with eliminating waves of encroaching enemies to survive as long as possible. New quests and rewards are likely tied to this mode during the event.
Finally, any players still grinding through the Battle Pass can expect some assistance. A new Level-Up quest pack arrives over four weeks, providing 28 easy levels through quests for those who need an XP boost to finish their Battle Passes.
