Apple has decided to take a novel approach to promoting its highly anticipated second season of the ‘Foundation.’ Starting Monday, viewers will be able to feast their eyes on the first episode of ‘Foundation’ on YouTube, a full week before the commencement of the second season on July 14th.

A strategic move to attract viewers

In an attempt to reel in more viewers, Apple has mimicked its prior successful strategy with the series ‘Silo,’ where it unveiled the first episode on Twitter to build anticipation for the season one finale. This time around, the tech giant is focusing on its prominent sci-fi series, ‘Foundation.’

The live-action rendition of Isaac Asimov’s acclaimed novel series made its debut in 2021 after being delayed due to the pandemic. Apple’s move to make the first episode of the series freely available on YouTube offers an alternative to viewers who might not want to install Apple’s streaming service on their smart TVs.

The upcoming second season sees the return of some of season one’s original cast, like Lee Pace and Jared Harris. There are also whispers about the third season’s filming already being underway. Fans are also in for a treat with a live Q&A session with showrunner David Goyer following the premiere on YouTube.

‘Foundation’ and its YouTube debut

While viewers can already watch the first episode of the series for free on Apple TV, the idea to stream it on YouTube is innovative, expanding the show’s potential reach to those who might prefer not to install a new app. As YouTube is universally accessible, this move by Apple could potentially garner a wider audience for the show.
