From intern to CEO: How much do Volkswagen employees earn?

Ana sayfa / News

Despite the economic difficulties Volkswagen has been experiencing, the attractive salaries offered to its employees have once again become the talk of the town. In particular, the CEO of the company, Oliver Blume, has made a name for himself as the head of Volkswagen not only with his power in management but also with his salary. So how much do Volkswagen employees earn?

First of all, let’s say that according to 2023 data, Blume earns 8.7 million euros a year. In fact, with additional contributions, his total earnings reach 10 million Euros. This is one of the highest incomes among executives of publicly listed companies in Germany.

The salaries of other top executives range between 1.2 and 5.6 million euros. However, the earning opportunities at Volkswagen are good for employees at all levels, not just at the top. Volkswagen’s salary system is based on a tariff called Haustarif, which is applied especially at its headquarters in Germany.

According to this tariff, employees are paid according to a 20-tier salary system. While new employees step into business life with a gross salary of 2,400 Euros, the top level, level 20 employees can receive a gross monthly salary of up to 7,700 Euros.

In addition, there is a “Tarif Plus” category reserved for certain expertise and leadership positions within the company. With this category, employees can earn an income between 8,500 and 9,500 Euros. Another advantage Volkswagen offers to its employees is an annual performance-based supplementary payment of 1,800 Euros and a success bonus of 4,735 Euros.

This bonus can be thought of as a year-end report card; this additional payment, which is determined according to the performance of the employees throughout the year, makes a nice contribution to the salary. Education level also plays an important role in the salary scale at Volkswagen. The company is generous to employees who develop themselves.

For example, an employee with a university degree or a technician with a master’s certificate can start directly at level 13, meaning a gross salary of 5,302 euros per month. Volkswagen also offers very good conditions for employees in the trainee system.

Trainees earn 1,187 euros in the first year and up to 1,437 euros in the last year. Those who choose the dual (dual-trained) working model also start with a starting salary of 1,261 Euros per month. Although Volkswagen earns above the average in Germany in terms of salary level and benefits, the financial difficulties the company is facing and possible austerity measures may affect this earnings picture in the near future. For the time being, however, Volkswagen is a favorite place to work for both interns and CEOs.
