Frostpunk 2’s sales success is astonishing!

Ana sayfa / News

Just days after the release of Frostpunk 2, Polish game developer 11 bit studios has announced that it has paid for the game. Released on September 20th, the survival and city-building game has already sold more than 350,000 copies.

The studio stated that both the development and marketing costs of the game have been covered, “Our total sales revenue has already covered the costs we spent on the production and marketing of the game.”

11 bit studios thanked gamers on social media, saying, “Thank you all so much for your support! It’s melting our (almost) frozen hearts. But the work doesn’t end here, we are constantly working on hot fixes and patches. Your feedback means a lot to us.”

But despite the game’s sales success, the company’s stock price suffered a massive drop. Following the launch of Frostpunk 2, the company’s shares fell 38 percent on September 23. According to Reuters, analysts noted that the game’s player count on Steam fell short of expectations. With 35,533 instant players, Frostpunk 2 surpassed the previous game Frostpunk 1’s peak of 29,361, but fell well short of the expected 80,000-100,000 player range.

Erste Group analyst Piotr Bogusz said that this number of players is a negative surprise, adding, “A drop in the average score below 80 percent could affect the game’s visibility on Steam, which in turn could affect sales.” Currently, the game’s Steam user score is 71 percent, with a “Mostly Positive” rating.

Dariusz Wolak, investor relations manager at 11 bit studios, said that gamers have not been able to adequately communicate that the game is not just a sequel and offers a different experience from the original Frostpunk. “We are very happy with our product, we have met our internal targets regarding the quality of the game, and sales at launch are in line with our expectations,” he said.
