FSR 4 finally rolls out across most FSR 3.1 titles

FSR 4 has officially landed in more games, and for AMD users, that means smarter upscaling and higher frame rates are just a toggle away.

After months of delay, AMD’s latest driver (version 25.9.1) finally delivers what it promised: widespread support for it. More than 85 games now officially work with the company’s new AI-powered upscaling and frame generation tech. That includes most games running FSR 3.1 with DirectX 12.

AI film Critterz puts OpenAI on Hollywood’s radar

AI film Critterz from OpenAI will debut in 2026 on a $30M budget, aiming to prove generative tools can rival Hollywood animation.

AMD is positioning FSR 4 as a sharp upgrade from FSR 3. The tech uses machine learning to better guess missing pixels when rendering at lower resolutions. The result, according to AMD, is high-speed gameplay that looks nearly identical to native 4K without hammering your GPU.

If you’re running a title with FSR 3.1, the upgrade path is surprisingly easy. AMD users can enable it manually using the Adrenalin Edition software. A new driver-level override lets you swap out FSR 3.1 implementations for the newer, smarter version.

Here’s how to activate it:

While FSR 4 is catching up, it still lacks features like motion vector support or full path-traced rendering seen in Nvidia’s DLSS. Still, AMD’s focus on open support means more gamers get access even without owning the latest Radeon cards.

With this rollout, AMD finally connects the dots between its promises and playable results. FSR 4 doesn’t just boost frame rates; it sharpens the experience across the board. For those gaming without top-tier hardware, that’s not just a nice upgrade. It’s the kind of win AMD needed to deliver.
