Samsung released two nearly flawless major firmware updates this year, and now, amidst a full-fledged expansion of One UI 8.0, it’s working behind closed doors on the next major update, One UI 8.5.
One UI 8.5 will likely debut early next year with the launch of the Galaxy S26 series. Samsung will then bring One UI 8.5 to many other Galaxy phones and tablets released in previous years.
Samsung’s Major Update List
A quick way to quickly determine if your device will receive One UI 8.5 is to check its compatibility. Both One UI 8.0 and 8.5 are based on Android 16. Therefore, even if your device’s last major Android update is Android 16, it’s expected to receive One UI 8.5 sooner or later, as long as it’s compatible with One UI 8.0.

While Samsung hasn’t officially announced One UI 8.5 yet, early leaked builds offer interesting clues about upcoming features and changes.
Based on Samsung’s overall software strategy, One UI 8.5 is expected to be released early next year (likely January or February 2026) and gradually reach every eligible device. Rumors suggest a beta for a limited number of devices, such as the Galaxy S25 series, could begin as early as December 2025 (a date around December 8th is being discussed), but no official beta plan has yet been confirmed.
