In 2021, during the Facebook Connect event, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the VR version of GTA: San Andreas, creating a buzz. However, three years later, the project has unfortunately been shelved. Here’s why…
Meta has indefinitely suspended the VR version of GTA: San Andreas!
On Meta Quest VR’s official YouTube channel, in response to a user’s question about the VR version’s status, Meta Quest stated, “The VR version of GTA: San Andreas has been indefinitely suspended; we are currently focusing on other projects.” This announcement has made the future of the long-awaited project uncertain.
According to Meta’s statement, the company is now concentrating on other projects, and work on the GTA: San Andreas VR version has been put on hold. While this leaves a glimmer of hope for future collaborations with Rockstar, the project has now become a major disappointment.
In fact, the project announced in 2021 was based on the “Definitive Edition” version of the GTA trilogy. However, this version faced significant criticism from players due to quality issues and high pricing, which severely impacted the game’s popularity. As a result, the Grove Street Games team, which developed this version, disbanded, leading to delays in GTA’s mobile and VR versions.
The suspension of the GTA: San Andreas VR version may have disappointed many players and VR enthusiasts. When or if this project will be revisited or completely canceled remains a big question mark.
So, what do you think about this situation? What innovations could the VR version of GTA: San Andreas have brought to the gaming world if it had materialized? What is your opinion on Meta’s decision? You can share your thoughts in the comments below.”
