In recent years, with significant advancements in technology, investments in the field of AI have also increased significantly. In this regard, major technology companies like Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI have gained prominence.

Of course, along with the benefits of AI, there have also been downsides. Language models that learn information by reading billions of texts and serve as the foundation for artificial intelligence tools are jeopardizing important professions such as writing. According to recent developments, a lawsuit has been filed against OpenAI’s language model, GPT.

Authors do not want OpenAI to use their works to train the GPT language model

The Authors Guild, based in the United States, and 17 renowned authors, including George R.R. Martin, the author of a world-famous book series, have filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, in the Southern District of New York Federal Court.

The plaintiff authors cited that OpenAI used their works to train the GPT language model and claimed that their copyright was violated. The plaintiffs argue that the language model can produce works just like an author, endangering the industry, and they demand that their works not be used for training by the AI giant.

You can do your homework with ChatGPT, at least OpenAI says so

OpenAI said that texts prepared with tools such as ChatGPT cannot be detected by artificial intelligence detectors.

OpenAI, in response to this lawsuit, stated in an interview with the U.S. news outlet The Verge that discussions are being held with organizations around the world, including the Authors Guild, regarding concerns such as copyright infringement.

OpenAI seems to be in trouble due to copyright infringements, as lawsuits on this issue continue to emerge. Previously, world-renowned authors such as Michael Chabon, Christopher Golden, Richard Kadrey, and comedian Sarah Silverman had also filed lawsuits citing copyright infringements.
