Xbox boss Phil Spencer revealed the total number of full-paying Xbox Game Pass subscribers in an interview. He said that in 2022, the platform had 25 million subscribers, and by the end of 2023, that number had increased by a massive 9 million.
Game Pass has 34 million full-paying subscribers
By the end of 2023, this number of subscribers had increased by 9 million to 34 million. Spencer emphasized that this number of subscribers did not take advantage of promotions, free subscriptions or discounts.
Spencer also noted how many Xbox Live Gold members are now counted as Game Pass subscribers after Game Pass was renamed Game Pass Core last year. It’s a small number, and most new members come via PC and the cloud.
With Xbox’s sales on Series X and S, it’s hard for Game Pass subscribers to come from there. And as Spencer said, the vast majority of Game Pass users (even outside of new members) are on PC.
Microsoft is in a bit of trouble on the Xbox side, as the company confirmed that four first-party Xbox games will be heading to PS5 and Switch. The Xbox community was not happy about this. To appease them, the company has been making a series of positive announcements.
The company also announced that Diablo 4, the first Activision Blizzard game released since Microsoft acquired it for $69 billion last year, will be coming to Game Pass.
Xbox co-president Sarah Bond also confirmed that Microsoft is currently working on a next-generation Xbox that aims to deliver the biggest technical leap you’ll see in a generation of hardware.
