Famous game producer Hideo Kojima upset his fans by sharing his thoughts on age and creativity on social media. Kojima, who created legendary series such as Metal Gear and Death Stranding, stated that he questions how long he can maintain his creative ability as he gets older. Details in our news…
Hideo Kojima: “I’m racing against time with my creative time”
Kojima, the producer of Death Stranding 2, admitted that old age scares him. He cited the example of famous 87-year-old director Ridley Scott, who is still actively working, as inspiration for his thoughts. If you remember, Scott managed to create a classic movie like Gladiator when he was in his 60s. Kojima said he was inspired by reading this biography. The 61-year-old Kojima used the following expressions in his post:
“AT MY AGE, I WONDER HOW LONG I CAN STAY CREATIVE. I WANT TO KEEP CREATING FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, BUT WILL IT TAKE 10 YEARS, 20 YEARS? EVERY DAY FEELS LIKE A RACE AGAINST TIME.”
Kojima Productions is currently in the “sprint” period, one of the most intense phases of the game development process. In particular, “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach”, which is expected to be released in 2025, is the main project Kojima is focused on. At the same time, we know that Kojima is working on “OD”, a co-development with Microsoft, and “Physint”, a new PlayStation 5 game. However, Kojima is most focused on “Death Stranding 2”.
Kojima made similar statements about the importance of creativity last year. He said that he wanted to continue making games throughout his life, but that this process gained a deeper meaning for him after the age of 60.
Kojima’s
busy schedule is not limited to game development. He is currently contributing to the movie version of the game “Physint” and the movie “Death Stranding” produced in partnership with A24. What do you think about this? Do you think Kojima’s race against time will affect his creativity? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below…
