Geely’s new electric vehicle Geome Xingyuan is undergoing hot weather tests in Turpan before its launch later this year. With its extremely affordable price, the vehicle is preparing to compete with models such as BYD Dolphin and Seagull.
The $11,000 Geely Geome Xingyuan on test
Geely Geome Xingyuan draws attention with its new details. The vehicle, which was tested in Turpan city of Xinjiang province, one of the hottest places in China, has the same design as the images announced by MIIT (China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) in July, as seen in its secret camouflage photos. These tests are being conducted to measure the vehicle’s performance in extreme temperatures.
The Geely Geome Xingyuan will be built on a new platform and an independent suspension system will be standard. While it is stated that the battery packs to be used in the vehicle may be provided by CATL, some sources claim that Geely’s self-developed Aegis short blade battery will be used. The fact that this battery is based on lithium iron phosphate technology seems more logical for a vehicle in this price range.
According to the MIIT listings, buyers will be able to choose between two different electric motors, 58 kW and 85 kW. The 58 kW TZ160XS001 will have a top speed of 125 km/h, while the 85 kW TZ160XS002 will have a top speed of 135 km/h.
The vehicle will have a range of 400 to 500 km, depending on the engine power and the size of the battery pack. The 58 kW version will weigh 1215 kg, while the 85 kW version will weigh 1285 kg.
Flyme Auto smart cockpit will be used in the vehicle interior. Geely Geome Xingyuan will have a length of 4135 mm, a width of 1805 mm and a height of 1570 mm. The wheelbase is measured at 2650 mm. This new platform is expected to be dedicated to all-electric vehicles.
This sub-brand, which Geely rebranded as Geome, was previously known as Geometry. While existing models are electric vehicles converted from internal combustion engine vehicles, the new Xingyuan is notable for being designed from the ground up as an electric vehicle.
In the MIIT declaration pictures, the Xingyuan adopts a new design language and has very flowing lines. The front of the vehicle is largely closed, with only a few air intakes. The two-tone paintwork gives it a youthful and dynamic look, while the wheel covers resemble game console buttons. The front and rear light clusters are designed in a teardrop shape with different angles.
The Geely Geome Xingyuan is expected to go on sale by the end of the year, with a starting price of around $11,100 (368,145~ TL). The launch of the Geely Geome Xingyuan is likely to create a new wave of competition in the electric vehicle market.
