NVIDIA’s popular cloud gaming service, GeForce NOW, has announced that starting in November 2024, it will end support for Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and macOS 10.11-10.14. This decision, which may frustrate users with older operating systems, was revealed following an update to NVIDIA’s support page. Here are the details of this significant development:
NVIDIA GeForce NOW Ending Support for Windows 7 and 8.1 in November
GeForce NOW is a service that allows users to play AAA games via cloud gaming on PC, Mac, or Android devices. However, due to Apple’s App Store policies, it is not available directly on iOS devices.
NVIDIA has indicated that access to GeForce NOW via web browsers on older operating systems might still be possible. However, it has emphasized that these platforms will not support the latest versions and security updates. This means that users on older systems will not receive full service, which could negatively impact their gaming experience.
With this change, users with older operating systems will not be able to take full advantage of the service, which is likely to encourage them to upgrade to newer operating systems. NVIDIA’s decision seems to aim at supporting more current and reliable systems for better security and performance.
NVIDIA’s announcement has raised some concerns among gamers using older operating systems. Particularly, the lack of support for new updates and security patches may affect their gaming experience.
However, there’s no need for excessive worry, as NVIDIA continues to add new games to the GeForce NOW library. The new games added and upcoming in August are:
- Stormgate (Steam, July 30): A strategy-based game set in a fantasy world.
- Space for Sale (Steam, July 30): A space exploration and building-themed game.
