General Motors Switches to Tesla NACS Connector Design

Tesla, dominating the electric vehicle market, is making deals with automotive giants thanks to its North America Charge Standard technology developed in 2012. General Motors announced that they will use the Tesla NACS connector in their electric vehicles produced from 2025.

GM CEO Mary Barra said in a statement that the company would adopt Tesla’s North America Charge Standard for electric vehicle charging. Barra made the announcement in a Twitter Spaces conversation with Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

GM will include the NACS connector design in its electric vehicles starting from 2025. The collaboration with Tesla also means that GM electric car drivers will have more access to charging stations because they can use the 12,000 Tesla Superchargers located in North America from early 2024.

The company that made the announcement about the subject stated that electric vehicle drivers are currently using more than 134,000 charging stations via mobile applications. GM electric car owners will also be able to benefit from Tesla’s Supercharger technology with an adapter starting from 2024.

Barra said in her statement, “This collaboration is an important part of our strategy and a significant next step in rapidly expanding access to fast charging for our customers. It can not only help make the transition to electric vehicles smoother for our customers, but also help the industry move towards a single North American charging standard.”
