Giancarlo Esposito, best known for his role as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad, has officially announced that he is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Let’s take a look at the actor’s statements and which character he will play in which movie.
Giancarlo Esposito is definitely joining the Marvel Universe, but his role is unclear
Esposito, who has appeared in productions such as Parish, The Boys and Revolution, played the villainous Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian for three seasons. Since then, Esposito’s desire to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been known. In particular, there were rumors of a potential role as Professor X in the X-Men reboot. Now, Esposito has finally confirmed that he is joining the MCU, but his role is still a mystery.
Esposito has hinted that he will not follow in the footsteps of Patrick Stewart or James McAvoy, nor will he star as Professor X. He also suggested that he would be playing a character that has not been portrayed in Marvel movies or TV series before.
“I can’t tell you I’m going to be Professor X. I can tell you that I will be an original character. We’ve seen different versions of Professor X. Would you like to see me as an original, new and fresh character playing a Marvel movie character? If so, mark my words: This will happen sooner than you think.”
Assuming Esposito is referring to a Marvel movie currently in production or in final production, we only have a handful of films like Thunderbolts, Captain America: Brave New World and The Fantastic Four. There’s also the possibility that Esposito could appear in Daredevil: Born Again.
