Apple has sued an employee it accuses of leaking confidential company information to journalists over several years. The lawsuit, filed in the US, alleges that the former Apple engineer shared various iOS features and services with journalists.
Apple sues employee for leaking iOS information
In the lawsuit, Apple revealed that an employee, Andrew Aude, sold details about unreleased Apple products, policies and business practices to reporters. The employee contracted with outlets such as the Wall Street Journal and The Information, leading to leaks at Apple.
The leaks allegedly included information about Apple apps, such as the upcoming Journal app on iOS. Preliminary prototypes of the Apple Vision Pro may also have been part of the leaks. Apple said Aude harmed the company by selling the information.
This situation, which was noticed by Apple executives last fall, was first shared with Aude. However, the former developer, who denied the leaks, accepted some of the allegations during an interview. It was then revealed that he had deleted some conversation recordings on his phone.
Apple took action against its former employee for selling trade secrets. Saying that it poses a significant risk to the company’s new features and products, Apple is demanding compensation from the former employee. On the other hand, it thinks that the contract signed with Aude to prevent violations has been violated.
