Gmail gets unread dots while Google Tasks adds deadlines

Gmail and Google Tasks are both picking up small but meaningful upgrades, with Google aiming to improve how users track messages and tasks on the go.

In the latest update to Gmail for Android, Google is adding circular unread dots to email entries. These dots appear next to the date or time of each message, complementing the usual bolded text for subject lines and senders. The dots also follow your device’s Dynamic Color theme, making them feel native to your overall design setup.

This change rolls out gradually through a server-side update. So if you don’t see it yet, it’s coming just not instantly.

Currently, the deadline doesn’t sync with Google Calendar or show on the mobile Tasks homepage. But it is available through the tasks.google.com web interface and when creating tasks directly within Calendar.
