TaleWorlds has released a major beta update for its beloved medieval RPG, Mount Blade II Bannerlord. Version 1.3, available on Steam, introduces radical changes and brand new features to the game. Players are offered a deeper experience in stealth, diplomacy, and strategy, but the studio has warned that the beta may not be fully compatible with previous entries.

One of the most notable innovations in the update is the addition of a stealth system. Players are now required to remain silent when escaping from prison or infiltrating enemy hideouts. NPCs can detect the player through factors such as sight, sound, and movement. Shadows, long grass, and nighttime provide cover, while crouching reduces the chance of detection.

Complementing the stealth mechanics, a disguise system allows players to navigate enemy areas undetected. Running, drawing a weapon, or exhibiting suspicious behavior raises guards’ suspicion. Suspicious guards may question you, and if your identity is revealed, all guards may be alerted.

Stealth attacks now deal extra damage to unaware targets, and you can conceal corpses by dragging them. New one-handed ranged weapons like the sling have also been added, opening up new strategic approaches.

New alliances at the diplomacy table
The update not only focuses on stealth but also significantly improves the diplomacy system. Alliances and trade agreements can now be formed between kingdoms for one year. Players can explore diplomatic opportunities by meeting with nobles in enemy settlements.

Other key innovations include:

This massive update also serves as preparation for the game’s first expansion, War Sails, which will be released in the coming months. Originally scheduled for June and introducing naval combat and a new race, the Nords, War Sails was postponed until the fall.
