Google has introduced a new feature aimed at improving the user experience with ads displayed in search results. Sponsored results will now appear with a more prominent label and a hidden structure. This change allows users to more easily identify ads and hide them if they are not desired.
Sponsored results can be easily hidden on Google
Under the previous system, each paid search result was individually marked with a “Sponsored” label. With the new update, all of these ads are now grouped together in a single section at the top of the page. This section features a larger “Sponsored” label that remains visible even as you scroll down. This makes the distinction between ads and organic results clearer.
The most striking aspect of the new feature is the option to hide ads. You can close them by tapping the “hide” button below the sponsored results section. However, you must first navigate past the entire ad section to see this button. Hidden ads remain collapsed under the “Sponsored” heading and can be reopened at any time. Google stated that this feature is being rolled out gradually for both mobile and desktop devices.
In the past, Google has faced criticism for making paid search results more similar to organic results. Around 2020, the company switched from the “ad” label to the “sponsored” label. This latest update is being described as an effort to streamline the search experience. So, what are your thoughts on this new advertising revision to Google’s search results?
