Google has unveiled a new desktop application for Windows laptops called “Essentials.” This new app brings together several Google services, such as Google Messages and Google Photos, and includes links to access many other Google services. The Google Essentials app will be available with new Windows laptops provided by HP. So, what does it offer? Here are the details…
Google to integrate its apps into Windows laptops with the new Essentials app
With the Essentials app, Google states that users will have the opportunity to “discover and install the best Google services.” The app allows you to view Google Photos and send or receive messages via Google Messages.
While the full list of services has not yet been revealed, the promotional images for the app display icons for Google Sheets, Google Drive, Nearby Share, and Google One. Additionally, new subscribers are offered a two-month free trial of Google One.
HP will begin offering the Google Essentials app on its Envy, Pavilion, and Omen series of computers. The company mentions that users will have control over their experience, allowing them to remove any or all parts of Essentials. However, it is not yet clear if the app will be downloadable for existing computers.
Essentials also includes the Google Play Games app, which allows you to download popular Android games to your computer. Through this app, you can continue playing games on your computer that you started on your Android device. Google has announced plans to bring Essentials to other Windows computers in the future.
With this development, Google seems to be playing a larger role within the Windows ecosystem. Windows users will have more integrated access to Google services, although some users may be concerned that Google could be seen as adding bloatware.
