Google Drive is undoubtedly the most popular cloud-based file storage tool. Although the ecosystem is very attractive, the only drawback of Google Drive was that uploading videos took a lot of time. Now, the Google Drive video uploading problem is also being solved.
How will the Google Drive video problem be solved?
Uploading videos to Google Drive is quite easy with Android sharing tools. However, video playback was not on par with YouTube, another service operated by Google. The uploading of videos took a very long time. The Google Drive team has now announced an update and a few features for Drive, and one of them will solve the video problem in the file storage application.
Google will add DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) transcodes for videos uploaded to Drive, solving the issue. According to Google, DASH transcodes will provide adaptive bitrate streaming by offering higher or lower resolution videos depending on factors like the quality of the local network. This will significantly reduce the time taken to upload until the beginning of the stuttering video.
The rebuffering time for high-speed playback and normal playback has also been reduced. DASH transcodes will be applied to all new videos uploaded to Drive from now on, and Google says it will update existing videos on Drive by the end of the year.
The second feature announced by the Workspace blog is enhanced search filters for Google Drive’s Android and iOS applications. We first saw these updated filters in Google Drive back in October, but they were hidden in the code. Google is now starting to bring these new filters to the Drive app on mobile devices. The filters will initially be available only on iOS and will come to Android soon. There is no specific timeline, but the company says it will roll out an update when the feature is ready for Android phones.
When these new filters are rolled out, you will find three filters when you tap on the search bar: Type, People, and Modified. The People tab will show files from your recent contacts, while Type and Modified make it easier to filter search results by file type (documents, images, videos, etc.) and changes made.
