Google Drive will instantly detect ransomware

Ana sayfa / News

Google announced the addition of a new AI-based ransomware security feature to its Drive app for desktop. This feature, developed to combat the growing threat of cyber threats, aims to protect user data and minimize the impact of potential attacks.

The new system automatically stops cloud syncing when a ransomware attempt is detected. This prevents the attack from spreading more widely and provides users with alternative ways to download uninfected file versions. According to Google, this solution is based on an advanced AI engine trained on millions of real ransomware samples and can identify malicious modifications with high accuracy.

According to Google, when the app detects unusual activity, it not only suspends syncing of affected files but also sends instant notifications and email alerts to the user. This allows users to restore clean versions of their files with step-by-step instructions. Google emphasizes that this rapid recovery process will help minimize data loss not only when working with Drive but also with other applications like Windows and Office.

The new security solution is designed to be adaptable not only against current threats but also against future ones. Google states that Drive’s detection engine constantly analyzes file changes and updates itself with the latest threat intelligence from VirusTotal. This allows the system to quickly adapt to new ransomware.

The feature is enabled by default on Windows and macOS. Users can disable it, manually initiate file recovery, and review audit logs from the Security Center.

Google announced that its AI-powered ransomware detection feature is available in open beta for most Workspace commercial plans at no additional cost.

This move is considered one of Google’s significant steps in combating the increasing prevalence of ransomware attacks in cloud security. Experts believe that such features, which increase data recovery speed and prevent the spread of attacks, are critical for business continuity, especially for enterprise users.
