Google Assistant and Gemini require a time to set reminders
Previously, you could ask Google Assistant to remind you of something without specifying a time. For example, saying “Hey Google, remind me to buy milk” would add it to your list without needing a specific time. Unfortunately, those days seem to be over.
Recently, both Google Assistant and its next-generation version, Gemini, require you to specify a time when creating a reminder. Now, when you say “remind me to buy milk,” you will be asked, “What time should I remind you?” Technology guru Artem Russakovskii shared this issue on X/Twitter, informing everyone about the change.
Both Google Assistant and Gemini can no longer create reminders without a specified time. Previously, it was possible to add such reminders to Google Tasks without specifying a time or date. Now, both assistants require a definite time, making it a necessity to save the reminder.
Google aims to present Gemini as a potential competitor to replace Google Assistant. You can set Gemini as the default assistant and use it with familiar features added by Google. However, this reminder functionality issue complicates things for Gemini. Hopefully, this is just a temporary glitch, and our assistants will return to their previous, more user-friendly state.
For now, you can still manually add tasks to Google Tasks without specifying a time. But if you want to create a reminder using AI assistants, you must specify a time. This situation might be a bit annoying, but technology often surprises us in unexpected ways.
